Efforts supported by the employees of Alcas, Cutco Cutlery, Ka-Bar, Schilling Forge and Vector Marketing
Jamestown Community College (JCC)
Alcas, Cutco and Vector Marketing’s executives believe that enhancing the education of our youth
locally is just as important as on a national level, which is why company executives have been
heavily involved in the development of the Cattaraugus County Campus of Jamestown Community College
near its headquarters in Olean, N.Y.
Alcas has been active at the school for years. Today, company President and CEO James E. Stitt serves on the school’s
Board of Trustees.
As the fate of Jamestown Community College’s (JCC) Cattaraugus County Campus lay unknown in the late 1990s,
Alcas Chairman of the Board Erick Laine became part of the energetic efforts involved in expanding the campus
in downtown Olean and therefore improving the vitality of the city’s center.
A member of the JCC Task Force, Mr. Laine was also the chair of the $31 million capital campaign to expand the campus.
Through the Cutco Foundation and contributions from Alcas officers, a significant donation was made toward the
campaign’s fund-raising efforts in early 1999.
As a result of efforts like this, Mr. Laine won the 2005 Council for Resource Development’s Benefactor Award,
a national award recognizing his outstanding contributions to community colleges. Also, in 2003 JCC established
the Erick J. Laine Community Scholarship in honor of his many contributions to the college and in 2001 he was
awarded JCC’s John D. Hamilton Award for his contributions.
"Erick Laine has been and continues to be a key player in the evolution of JCC’s Cattaraugus County
Campus," said JCC President Gregory T. DeCinque. "He values higher education and understands that
JCC’s presence brings vitality to the region. We are extremely grateful for all that Erick has
done for both the college and the community."
